WGAJK successfully concludes District-level Ski and Snowboard Championship in Gulmarg 

Gulmarg: The Winter Games Association of Jammu & Kashmir (WGAJK) successfully concluded its two-day district-level ski, snowboard, and Nordic championship at Gulmarg, witnessing participation from nearly 200 athletes across various districts.

The championship featured events in Slalom and Giant Slalom for both alpine skiing and snowboarding, with competitors divided into different age categories, including Open, JI, J2, CI, and C2. The competitions were held on the scenic Church Slopes of Gulmarg, a prime destination for winter sports in the region.

The event was organized in collaboration with WGAJK, the J&K Sports Council, and the Department of Tourism Kashmir, further solidifying Gulmarg’s status as a hub for winter sports and boosting the region’s tourism appeal.

Speaking at the medal distribution ceremony, Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg, Tahir Wani, praised the enthusiasm of young athletes.
“It is heartening to see so many youngsters participating in skiing and snowboarding. Their passion will inspire more youth to take up winter sports. The Tourism Department remains committed to supporting and encouraging them,” Wani said.

WGAJK President Rouf Tramboo expressed gratitude to all athletes, technical officials, and members of the Sports Council and Tourism Department for their support.
“Our focus is to engage athletes from all districts, and today’s participation from across Jammu and Kashmir has been remarkable. It was particularly encouraging to see young skiers from South Kashmir join the competition. We hope more young athletes will take up skiing and snowboarding and aspire to compete at higher levels,” Tramboo stated.

The event was graced by Divisional Sports Officer Central, Javid Ur Rehman, and Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, Gazala, who also distributed medals among the winners.

With growing participation in winter sports, the district-level championship marks another step toward establishing Jammu & Kashmir as a leading winter sports destination in India.
