EJAC meets Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, raises key employee  issues

Srinagar: A delegation of the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), led by its President Wajahat Hussain Durrani, met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today to discuss the pressing issues faced by government employees. The delegation included prominent leaders such as General Secretary Sajad Parray, Farooq Ahmad Khan, Suhaib Munshi, Mansoor Khan, Mohammad Amin Khan and other senior members of EJAC, a statement issued to Ziraat Times said. 

During the meeting, the delegation presented a comprehensive agenda, highlighting the challenges of casual laborers, seasonal workers, daily wagers, and other employees awaiting regularization and fair treatment.

EJAC President Wajahat Hussain Durrani said that “Our meeting with the Chief Minister focused on the urgent need to resolve longstanding issues, including the regularization of services for casual laborers and daily wagers, timely promotions, and addressing the concerns of seasonal workers. These employees are the backbone of many government operations, and they deserve stability and dignity in their work.”

General Secretary Sajad Parray stated that “We demanded the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to comprehensively discuss all issues related to government employees. This will ensure a systematic and focused approach toward resolving these matters and improving the welfare of thousands of workers.”

Following the meeting, EJAC leaders held a press conference where they expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister.

President Wajahat Hussain Durrani remarked “We are highly thankful to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, for listening to all our grievances and issues. He assured us that our demands are genuine and promised to take appropriate action to address them.”

EJAC Senior Leader Farooq Ahmad Khan added “The Chief Minister’s assurance has given us hope that the challenges faced by government employees will soon be resolved.”

 

Over the years, EJAC has consistently raised various issues, which include Regularization of Services for casual laborers, daily wagers, and seasonal workers, Promotions, delays in promotions and implementing transparent promotion policies, Wage Disparities Ensuring equal pay for equal work and implementing wage revisions for all categories of employees, Social Security Enhancing welfare benefits, pensions, Grievance Redressal Mechanisms Establishing streamlined processes to address employees’ concerns in a time-bound manner,

 

The Chief Minister, while addressing the delegation, acknowledged the significance of the issues raised and assured EJAC leaders of the government’s commitment to addressing employees’ welfare. He expressed willingness to explore the possibility of forming a Cabinet Sub-Committee as proposed by EJAC to ensure a more focused approach to resolving employee-related issues.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue the dialogue and work collaboratively toward ensuring justice and fair treatment for all government employees, the statement said.
