Sub-standard, counterfeit medicines sale in Kashmir: Shahre Khass TCC calls for urgent action

Srinagar, Oct 25: In a press release today, Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik, President of the Shahre Khass Traders and Manufacturers Coordination Committee has brought attention to the alarming issue of counterfeit medicines being sold in Kashmir’s markets.

“Kashmir has always upheld a legacy of trust, but it is heartbreaking to see some individuals exploiting this trust for profit at the expense of human lives,” Malik stated in the statement.

“It is utterly unacceptable and deeply troubling that our families may be unknowingly consuming fake or substandard medicines that fail to provide any therapeutic benefit.”

Malik highlighted numerous instances where patients have shown no improvement after using these low-quality or ineffective medications. “These medicines are often of poor quality, lacking the standards promised by the manufacturers,” he explained, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability.

This issue was raised yesterday in a Twitter (X) Space discussion with MLA Salman Ali Sagar of the Hazratbal constituency. Sagar acknowledged the severity of the problem, noting that he himself had experienced similar concerns with medicines for his own family. He assured that strict action would be taken soon to address this growing menace.

Describing it as the work of a “drug mafia,” Malik called on society to take collective responsibility. “We must raise awareness on all platforms and join forces to put an end to this practice. The health and safety of our community cannot be compromised.”

Malik concluded by appealing to the public to support this cause, saying, “Together, we can eliminate this danger from our markets and ensure a healthier future for all.”
