Doctor among 7 shot dead, 5 injured in Sonamarg tunnel site terror attack. Omar, Gadkari condemn act

Srinagar, Oct 20: At least six migrant workers and a local doctor were shot dead in a terror attack in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday evening, officials said.

The earlier reports said two migrant workers were killed and three were injured. Latest reports indicate that the number of injured people is five.

The attack occurred near the under-construction Z Morh tunnel, officials said.

Security forces have reached the attack site and cordoned off the area.

According to reports, the workers attacked were part of the construction team working on the Z-Morh tunnel, which connects Gagangeer to Sonamarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack on “unarmed innocent people” and extended his condolences to their loved ones.

“Very sad news of a dastardly and cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. 2 have been killed and 2-3 more have been injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones,” Abdullah posted on X.

He later tweeted saying the death toll was higher and that his reports suggested many more were injured.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Nitin Gadkari, Union Transport and Highways Minister; BJP J&K Chief Ravinder Raina; JKPCC Chief Tariq Karra, JKPC chief Sajjad Lone, former J&K Congress President Ghulam Ahmed Mir; Kangan MLA Mian Meher and other prominent politicians have strongly condemned the attack.
