Election Commission seeks fresh Panchayat rolls from J&K Admin. Elections likely before 25 December

Srinagar, Oct 11: In a significant development, the State Election Commission of Jammu & Kashmir has initiated preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections by requesting the soft copies of the Final Panchayat Electoral Roll 2024. The letter, dated October 9, 2024, and addressed to all district Deputy Commissioners, directs them to provide soft copies of the electoral roll (without photos) to the commission. These electoral rolls will be uploaded on the official website for public access.

This development comes as the region gears up for its Panchayat elections, which are likely to be held before December 25, 2024. The process for finalizing the electoral roll indicates the commission’s readiness to ensure smooth electoral proceedings.

The timing of this move is particularly significant, as it follows closely on the government formation after  the first Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir since it was reorganized into a Union Territory in 2019.
