President Murmu arrives in Ladakh, visits Siachen

Leh, Sept 26: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, embarked on a visit to the Siachen Base Camp in Nubra tiday after arriving in Leh earlier.
Upon her arrival at Thoise Airport, theĀ  President was received by key military and civilian leaders, including Lt Governor Brigadier [Dr] BD Mishra [Retd], Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, GoC in Chief Northern Command Lt General MV Suchindra Kumar, CEC LAHDC-Leh Advocate Tashi Gyaltson, Advisor to the HLG Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; 14 Corps Commander Lt General Hitesh Balla, ADGP Ladakh Shri S.D. Jamwal, IPS; 102 Brigade Commander Brig. Himanshu Hatkar,Ā  Member of Parliament Ladakh Shri Haji Hanifa Jan, DC Leh Shri Santosh Sukhadave, IAS; and SSP LehĀ  Ms. Shruti Arora, IPS; among others.
Following her brief stay at the airport, the President Droupadi Murmu along with the Lt Governor Brig [Dr] BD Mishra [Retd], Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and other top army officers proceeded to the Siachen Base Camp, where the President had the opportunity to interact with the brave troops stationed in one of the worldā€™s most challenging environments. The President expressed her gratitude for their service and dedication, gaining first-hand insights into their experiences and the conditions they endure, a press statement received by Ziraat Times said.
Addressing the troops, she said in difficult situations like heavy snowfall and minus 50 degrees temperature, they present extraordinary examples of sacrifice and tolerance in protecting the motherland. The President said that as the supreme commander of the armed forces, she felt very proud of them and that “all citizens salute their bravery”.
The President also paid tributes at the Siachen War Memorial. She said that War Memorial is a symbol of the sacrifice of soldiers and officers who have been martyred since the Indian Army began Operation Meghdoot on the Siachen Glacier on April 13, 1984.
