Er Rashid’s AIP announces electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami

Srinagar, Sept 15: In a significant development, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), led by Engineer Rashid, and the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) of Jammu & Kashmir have announced to forge an electoral alliance in J&K.

This announcement came on Er Rashid’s  Facebook page Sunday evening and further details are awaited.

If it materialises, this new alliance could  significantly impact J&K’s political landscape, political observers believe.

Engineer Rashid enjoys a growing base of support, particularly in north Kashmir, due to his outspoken stance on political and social issues, especially regarding the region’s autonomy and conflict resolution.

Political pundits believe that an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami,  which presently stands banned, and has a long-standing presence in Jammu & Kashmir, could further consolidate his base, bringing together both secular and religious voters under one political banner.

Both the AIP and Jamaat-e-Islami have positioned themselves as critics of the mainstream political parties like the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Further details and awaited
