Google-backed fund selects 4 Indian firms for AI-driven climate solutions

New Delhi, Aug 31: A Google-backed fund, supported by a $5 million grant from Google.org, has selected four Indian organizations to develop AI-driven solutions addressing climate-related challenges. These organizations were chosen as part of the APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0, which aims to foster innovative approaches using technology to tackle environmental and social issues, an official statement received by Ziraat Times said.

The selected Indian organizations include:

1. INREM Foundation – They will develop AI-enabled open digital solutions to provide community access to water contamination data.
2. CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) – This organization will use machine learning and satellite imagery to protect lakes and enhance their role as carbon sinks.
3. Institute for Financial Management and Research (WELL Labs) – They will create advanced models for village-level water security insights.
4. Gujarat Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT) – MHT will develop an AI-powered model to identify urban heat islands and suggest community-centric solutions.

This initiative follows a previous $3 million grant by Google.org that supported projects in India’s agricultural sector, significantly impacting water conservation and carbon emission reduction.
