JKEEGA appeals LG Admin for regularization and reinstatement of suspended engineers

Srinagar, July 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) has urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the long-pending issue of regularization of power engineers.

The association expressed concern about the delay in implementing the State Administrative Council’s (SAC) 2019 decision to regularize power engineers. While a recent directive from the LG’s office aimed to expedite the process, JKEEGA claims minimal progress has been made. They point out that engineers in other departments like PWD have already been regularized.

JKEEGA also raised concerns regarding the suspension of some engineers. Despite facing hardships while implementing power reforms, these engineers haven’t seen a resolution to their suspension cases even after submitting replies to chargesheets four months ago.

However, the association acknowledged the improvements achieved by engineers in reducing power losses and improving billing efficiency. They highlighted a decrease in AT&C losses from 51% in 2022-23 to 40% in 2023-24.

JKEEGA further emphasized the challenges faced due to a significant number of vacant positions across various levels (XEN, SE & CE) in the Power Development Department (JKPDD). This shortage, coupled with the lack of fresh recruitment at the junior engineer level since 2016, has burdened existing engineers with additional charges and hampered departmental functioning.

In their appeal, JKEEGA urged Lt. Governor Sinha to expedite the regularization process adhering to the SAC decision and address the issue of engineer suspensions. They also requested the filling of vacancies through promotions and recruitment to ensure efficient departmental operations.
