Fire Dept in Srinagar gets over 300 distress calls this year so far; 76 houses, 12 commercial houses damaged

 

Srinagar, Jul 05: Jammu and Kashmir’s Fire and Emergency Department has received over 300 distressed calls from Srinagar in the ongoing year while 76 residential houses and 12 commercial buildings too got damaged in these incidents.

According to official data, for Srinagar district, the Fire and Emergency Department has logged over 300 fire calls that caused damage to over 115 structures in the district.

Data reveals that of the total damage caused by over 115 fire incidents in Srinagar, 76 residential houses were gutted, while as many as 12 commercial buildings too were damaged.

According to the data, the damage caused by fire also includes five hotels, 15 electric transformers, 14 other structures and 16 shops.

A senior officer from the fire and emergency department told KNO, that the fire incidents compared to the previous years almost stands the same but that they have been repeatedly advising people not to store gas cylinders inside the buildings.

“The natural combustion takes time, but when there are gas cylinders stored inside and when they explode the fire spread at a rapid pace,” the official said.
