PHDCCI Kashmir congratulates Srinagar artisans on World Craft City recognition

Srinagar: The PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industries Kashmir Chairman A P Vicky Shaw has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the artisans of Srinagar on being recognized as the fourth Indian city as a World Craft City by the World Craft Council. This prestigious achievement follows Srinagar’s designation as part of the UNESCO Creative City Network for crafts and folk art.

The PHDCCI is immensely honoured to have been a part of the jury visit by the World Craft Council. We take great pride in recognizing the pivotal roles played by Saleem Beigh State Convenor of INTACH, and  Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir. Their exemplary leadership and initiative were instrumental in securing Srinagar’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City and now as a World Craft City, PHDCCI said in a statement to Ziraat Times.

The demonstration and presentation conducted by Director Handicrafts Kashmir and INTACH have significantly contributed to showcasing the rich cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship of Srinagar on these esteemed global platforms. We firmly believe that these dual recognitions will not only bring international prestige to Srinagar but also usher in a wide array of benefits including economic growth, cultural preservation, enhanced support for artisans, and a platform for fostering innovation.

 Saleem Beigh and Mehmood Ahmad Shah have exemplified unwavering dedication and passion in promoting Srinagar’s artisan community, and their efforts have been duly acknowledged on a global scale. The PHDCCI commends their outstanding commitment and leadership in elevating Srinagar’s standing in the global craft and folk art landscape, the statement added.

This dual recognition as a UNESCO Creative City and now as a World Craft City will undoubtedly elevate the visibility of Srinagar’s handicrafts industry, attracting greater attention and admiration from both national and international audiences.
