Srinagar, July 3: The Chairman of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir, A.P. Vicky Shaw, has urged the GST Department to provide extensive handholding to businesses to help them understand and comply with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.
Mr Shaw made the remarks during the GST Week celebrations organized by the PHD Chamber in Kashmir. He said that the GST has had a transformative impact on the economy, but businesses are still facing challenges in understanding and complying with the new tax regime.
“The GST Department has done a commendable job in implementing the GST, but more needs to be done to help businesses understand and comply with the new tax regime,” Mr Shaw said. “The GST Department should provide extensive handholding to businesses, including through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one counseling.”
Mr Shaw also called for a closer partnership between the GST Department and businesses to ensure that the GST is implemented smoothly and effectively. He said that the government, traders, federations, and chambers should work together to create an environment conducive to transparent compliance and effective issue resolution.
The GST Week celebrations were attended by a number of dignitaries, including Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner of State Taxes, Ankita Kar, Additional Commissioner of State Taxes, Shakeel Maqbool, Additional Commissioner of State Taxes Enforcement Kashmir, Parveez Ahmad Raina, Deputy Commissioner Enforcement, Central Kashmir, Tabasum Kamili, Deputy Commissioner (Appeals -I) Kashmir, Samor Naik, Deputy Commissioner (Appeals -II) Kashmir, and Sh. Farooq Ahmad Baba, Deputy Commissioner Audit, IT, Kashmir, according to a statement issued by PHDCCI to Ziraat Times.
In his address, Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of the GST in transforming the Indian economy. He said that the GST has simplified the tax system and made it easier for businesses to comply with tax laws. He also called for the GST Department to continue to work with businesses to ensure that the GST is implemented smoothly and effectively.
The GST Week celebrations were a success and helped to raise awareness of the GST among businesses and the general public in Kashmir. The event also highlighted the importance of cooperation between the GST Department and businesses to ensure the successful implementation of the GST, PHDCCI further said.
