30-day certificate course in ‘Organic and Natural Farming’ concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

Jammu, Dec 16: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu in collaboration with National Centre for Organic and Natural Farming, Ghaziabad organized a 30-days certificate course for youth on Organic and Natural Farming. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was the Chief Guest of valedictory function on 16-12-2022. He discussed that natural farming offers a solution to various problems, such as food insecurity, farmers’ distress, and health problems arising due to pesticide and fertilizer residue in food and water, global warming, climate change and natural calamities. It also has the potential to generate employment, thereby stemming the migration of rural youth. Natural Farming, as the name suggests, is the art, practice and, increasingly, the science of working with nature to achieve much more with less.

Dr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Director, NCONF, Ghaziabad presented the over view of the course and thanked the University authorities for their help in organizing this course. Dr. Parshant Bakshi, course director also spoke on the occasion and said that the prime focus of our country is on natural farming that improves the soil health by increasing the microbial count in soil by formulations like Jeevamrit, Panchgavya from desi cow dung and urine. He also demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrit to the participants. The lectures were delivered by eminent scientists like Dr. Gagnesh Sharma, Director NCONF, Ghaziabad, Dr. Rameshwar Kumar, Principal Scientist Organic Centre, CSK HPKV Palampur, Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Ex-Director Research, Dr. S.K.Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture and Forestry, Dr. Vishal Raina, Trainer from MANAGE, Hyderabad and Dr. Gayatri Tandon. The exposure visits were also arranged for the participants to RRSS, Raya, Sarveshwar Agro Products Pvt. Ltd., Vegetable production in River basin area and Vermicompost unit to provide first hand experience to them. The certificates and study material was distributed among the participants by the chief guest.

Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, Dr. S.K. Gupta, Registrar and Dean, Faculty of Horticulture and Forestry, Dr. B.C. Sharma, Dean Agriculture and Coordinator, NAHEP-IDP, Dr. S.E.H. Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Science also attended the valedictory function. The Heads of the Divisions and Faculty members of Division of Fruit Science also attended the function.
The function was coordinated by Dr. A.P. Rai, Dr. Balbir Dhotra, Mohd. Sadiq, Reetika Sharma and Megha Patidhar. In the end, Dr. S.K. Singh presented the vote of thanks.
