Chandigarh, Oct 14: The Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir is participating in the 25th edition of CII Chandigarh Fair at Sector 17 in Chandigarh from October 14-17.
The four-day fair, which is hosting 10 concurrent expos, including Handicrafts/Handloom, Home Decor, Realcon (Real Estate), Persona, Kitchen Central and International Arcade, was today inaugurated by the Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The event is going to take place after a two year gap due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The fair is spread over 300 stalls displaying a variety of products from Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal and Uttarakhand.
There is a special focus on Kashmir handicrafts and handloom in the event where the artefacts from the pashmina fibre to the exquisitely woven carpets and the indigenous embroidery styles as that of carpet, Crewel, Chain Stitch, are at display from Kashmir. Artisans from far and wide districts of the valley are participating in the exhibition.
The aim of such departmental interventions is to display and exhibit the handicrafts and handloom products of Kashmir besides enabling the artisans to increase their market presence, an official at the event told Ziraat Times.
The department is committed to holding such exhibitions in the major cities to provide marketing opportunities to the artisans and manufacturers to dispose their inventory which has piled up due to the COVID-19 pandemics, the official said.
