License Renewal Issues: SKT urges Labour Dept to hold renewal camps

Time to renew. Businesses, strategies, plans and goals concept. Text under torn paper

Srinagar, June 13: Shahre Khass Traders (SKT) has urged the Labour Department to hold license renewal camps in Srinagar city so that this matter could be resolved in a dignified and timely manner.

In a statement issued to Ziraat Times, the Shahre Khass Traders (SKT) President Bashir Ahmad Kanu said that it had received several phone calls and messages from different markets of Shahre Khass complaining that squads from Labour Commissioner office levied heavy fines on shopkeepers for non-renewal of licenses and for Sunday Closed license.

“We welcome every good step from Government, but we don’t understand why the departments target traders only. We suggest the Commissioner of Labour Department to organise small camps in the Shahre khass where the traders will on-spot renew old licenses and the new traders will get new licenses”, the statement said.

“The SKT will help the department to make these camps successful. Instead of imposing fines, [it will be better to] make friendly environment or make the traders aware of all the rules, which will strengthen the relation between administration and the traders. We are not in favour of closing shops as we were closed for many years”, SKT said, observing “now we want to open our shops 24*7 to compensate the losses. Hope inshallah commissioner will consider our opinion.”
