Jablipora Fruit Mandi allotment issue: Mehbooba for priority of locals

Srinagar, March 11: A delegation of various fruit growers from Anantnag today called on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and appraised her about the hardships being faced by the fruit grower’s community in the area.

The delegation said that many of them had fulfilled all the requisite formalities and even deposited fee for the allotment of space in the fruit Mandi Jablipora almost a decade ago. Now, the fruit growers said, they have been refunded the money without being allotted spaces which has put the whole community in a spot.

Mehbooba gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them of all possible help. On the occasion, Mehbooba asked that locals should be prioritised in the process of allocation of space in the fruit mandi Jabli pora.

Pertinently, as reported by Ziraat Times earlier, fruit growers of several South Kashmir areas have been saying that the fresh application process initiated by the Marketing and Planning Wing of the Horticulture Department was done in an alleged secret manner for allotment of space at the fruit terminal and maintained that they were kept uninformed about the process.
