Srinagar’s business in critical state: Shehr-e-Khaas Traders and Manufacturers Committee

Srinagar, Jan 26: Shahr-e-Khass Traders and Manufacturers Coordination Committee, a prominent business platform of Srinagar city’s major trading and manufacturing entities, has expressed its deep concern about the precarious state of businesses in the city owing to steep decline in people’s purchasing power and trade liquidity.

In a statement to Ziraat Times, the Committee said that business was almost down at 70% down, as result no one in the markets is able to earn their livelihoods in these circumstances.

The statement was issued after a meeting of the committee at its office chambers, which was chaired by its President Bashir Ahmed Kenu, Senior Vice President Arif Wani, General Secretary Aijaz Pampori, chief spokesperson Javaid Habib and key business stakeholders of Shahr-e-khass.

“Members unanimously agreed that trade is in tremendous stress. Markets are running out of cash and purchasing power of traders got vanished. Overall business is almost down at 70% and no one in the markets is able to earn there livelihoods in these circumstances”, the statement added.

Calling upon the central government to take corrective measures to rescue the traders, the members observed that small scale traders contributed 70% of GDP of Kashmir division, and they are on the verge to closure.

“How we can repay our debts in this really worrisome situation? We request also the trade leaders to kindly raise the issues related to trade only so that it can reach the policy makers of the government”, the members said.

“We have to raise our voice for which we have got the mandate. Why should we indulge ourselves in those issues for what we have not got the mandate? We will raise issues and the miseries of traders that they are facing from three consecutive years. In these circumstances, we should raise our voice in one go. And thereafter a charter of demands should be presented to the concerned central ministry”, the statement added.
