Income Tax Return filing deadline extended to March 15

New Delhi, Jan 11: The last date to file Income Tax Returns has been extended to March 15, 2022.

In a circular issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance said that the due date to file income tax returns for assessment year 2021-22 had been extended “on consideration of difficulties reported by taxpayers and stakeholders due to Covid and in electronic filing of various reports”.

“The due date for furnishing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was 30th November 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, as extended to 31st December 2021 and 28th February 2022… is further extended to 15th March, 2022,” the circular says.

In the run-up to the earlier December 31 deadline to file income tax returns, many taxpayers and chartered accountants had requested an extension of the due date over glitches on the new income tax filing portal.
