CDI’s transfer to Industries Dept will build synergies: FCIK

Srinagar, Jan 31: Federation Chamber of Industries President (FCIK) has welcomed the transfer of administrative control of the Craft Development Institute (CDI) to the Industries and Commerce Department for promoting GI tagging of J&K arts and crafts.

In a statement to Ziraat Times, FCIK President said the Craft Development Institute has protected the artisans through authentic trade of genuine pashmina based handicrafts and handloom products in the market. “The Institute has so far assisted Pashmina, Sozni, Kani, Khatamband, Papermachie, Walnut carving, and Carpet art in achieving the GI tag. Today’s step of transfer of CDI to I&C Dept will make the Jammu and Kashmir’s art and craft more efficient and smooth-running”, he added.

FCIK Secretary General Ovees Qadir Jamie said the transfer of CDI to the I&C department will help in making the prompt decision making and better supervision as the I&C Department is the parent department to promote the craft & skills. The decision of transfer of Craft Development Institute (CDI) to the Industries will promote and develop the contemporary, traditional and diversified crafts in Jammu and Kashmir through better planning. The CDI which is providing Geographical Indicator (GI) tag will  build Synergies with I&C Department to boost awareness and sales of authentic products.
