J&K Govt introduces new irrigation water usage fees

Srinagar, Aug 24: Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority, a government of Jammu & Kashmir undertaking responsible for administration of water resources, has Tuesday announced a new structure of fees for drinking and irrigation water usage for all categories of water users, including domestic, commerciaI, irrigation, institutional, industrial purposes, including filling of water tankers, etc.

Irrigation water made available through lift irrigation systems will incur more cost to farmers than gravity based irrigation water system.

An official order issued in this regard today, a copy of which has been obtained by Ziraat Times, reads, “in terms of section 128 and section 145(2) of the J&K Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act 2010, the Authority has decided to fix the water usage charges/tariff for different categories of water for the year 2021-22 effective from 01- 04-2021, as given in the Annexure – I with illustrations of different types of water uses categories as given in the Annexure-II of this order.”

The new water usage tariffs will have a retrospective effect from Ist April, 2021 and shall remain valid till 31-04-2022.
