SRINAGAR, March 10: Department of Agriculture Kashmir is working on a model which aims at generating additional income to the growers for which the Mushroom Sector is all set to increase productivity and enhance employment avenues.
These views were expressed by Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal while distributing Pasteurised Compost to the mushroom growers /entrepreneurs of district Srinagar and Budgam at Integrated Mushroom Development Centre (IMDC) Lalmandi. He said IMDC Lalmandi is all set to provide 2400 pasteurized compost bags and other inputs in the first phase.
Iqbal Chowdhary said the department is committed to give all sorts of technical guidance to the interested mushroom growers and entrepreneurs for setting up new mushroom units. Director said Mushroom being economically viable cottage industry, the Department is giving thrust for its sustainability and exploring avenues for market linkage.
On the occasion, Joint Director Apiculture & Mushroom Farooq Ahmad Shah said that Pasteurized compost has been prepared in the centre under scientific and highly technical guidance and is ready for distribution to all the beneficiaries of the valley duly authorized by concerned Chief Agriculture Officers.
Mushroom Specialist Zaffar Ahmad Hakeem, Spawn Production Officer Amarjeet Singh, Mushroom Research Officer Farzana Tabasum and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Director paid a surprise visit to District Shopian. Delegations of Pesticide/Fertilizer Dealers interacted with the Director. Later Director took a detailed review of the working of the district with the officers and officials.
