Srinagar: Taking due note of the demands of Kashmir saffron growers, traders and GI branding experts, Agriculture Department, Kashmir, has mooted a proposal to the IT Department of the NSE to make the domain name of the e-auction portal Kashmir Saffron GI-specific.
The development comes after the e-auction portal for Kashmir saffron was publicised for registration of buyers and sellers on Tuesday.
Kashmir Saffron farmers, traders and GI branding experts expressed in WhatsApp groups and other social media the need to make the domain name of the e-auction website reflect brand “Kashmir saffron” so that the GI branding is duly reflected in the process.
Taking note of the suggestions made, an official of the Agriculture Department, Kashmir, told Ziraat Times that Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Syed Altaf Andrabi, has written a letter to NSE dated 25-8-2020 requesting the domain to reflect the correct GI term.
Saffron farmers and GI branding experts have appreciated the move.
