In an effort to encourage home based poultry raring in the Corona lockdown times, Animal Husbandry Department, Kashmir and Ziraat Times have joined hands to launch “Kashmir Home Poultry Campaign”.
“This campaign is intended to provide general public, who wish to engage in home-based backyard/frontyard poultry, with up-to-date information, technical guidance and support”, representatives of AH Department and Ziraat Times involved in the design of the campaign said.
Experts say home-based poultry in these lockdown conditions can assist people in securing a rich protein source within their homes without the need to go out and experience corona virus-related vulnerabilities.
Dr Altaf Gilani, Assistant Director, Animal Husbandry Department said that it was a “step towards self-reliance at house-hold level.”
Through this campaign, domestic waste, which is edible for poultry, can also be put to good use.
“We produce a lot of kitchen waste which fills dust bins and creates trouble for disposal. Most of it can be utilized in ones backyard for recycling by one of nature’s marvel gift “poultry” to nutritious, fresh and residue free eggs, poultry meat and manure to be re-utilized again for kitchen gardening and lawn beautification”, Dr Altaf added.
Ziraat Times shall be providing information dissemination support for the campaign, which is also expected to help strengthen the local supply chain for this crucial sector.
