At 31% Srinagar figures at bottom in COVID-19 vaccination drive

Srinagar: Srinagar, the district with highest number of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths in Jammu & Kashmir, is one of the worst performers in terms of vaccination against the deadly virus.

A district-wise mapping of J&K’s vaccination coverage against COVID-19 has shown that Srinagar figures at the 19th position in 20 districts of the UT vis-à-vis percentage of the population above 45 years of age.

According to official data, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), only 31.42 percent of population aged above 45 years has been vaccinated in Srinagar.

Of the total 196585 cases detected in J&K since the outbreak of COVID-19 in March last year,49220 cases have been reported from Srinagar. As many 580 deaths have also taken place in the district due to COVID-19.

The official data also reveals that Kupwara figures at the bottom as only 28.84 % of population in this age group has been vaccinated

Until May 05, Anantnag district administered vaccines to 48.7 percent of population in this age group, Kulgam 55.78 %, Shopian 96.07 %, Pulwama 47.57 %, Budgam 63.13 %, Baramulla 60.91 %, Bandipore 63.30 % , Ganderbal 93.53 % , Jammu 91.66 % , Udhampur 53.33 % , Rajouri 47.00 %, Kathua 61.49 %, Poonch 47.30 %, Ramban 55.52 %,Doda 40.82 %, Kishtwar 53.38 % Reasi 4 42.04 % and Samba 85.40 %.

The data also reveals that out of 15783 persons vaccinated in the age group of 18-45 in J&K, only 129 have been vaccinated in districts other than Srinagar and Jammu.

As many as 15654 persons in this age group have been vaccinated in two capital city districts of J&K—(KNO)
