Srinagar: A delegation of Tosamadian Development Fourm met Ministry of Tribal Affairs Expert Committee at Srinagar on Tuesday.

The delegation met Giri Rao and Priya Tayde expert members to address PvTGs and Seasonal Resource Access to Nomadic and Pastoralist communities. During the meeting, Sheikh Maqbool chief spokesperson TDF expressed his views to protect and safeguard the resource base and habitat of PVTGs. He said the law has a special provision to recognize the rights over community tenures of habitat and habitation for PVTGs and pre -agricultural communities.

“However, after the abrogation of Article 370 for implementation of FRA there have been inherent challenges and operational difficulties in the process of recognition of such rights which needs to be addressed by MOTA on top priority”, the forum said at the meeting.

“Recognition of forest rights at tourism destinations has been a serious challenge in J&K. There has been continued harassment of PVTGs and forest dwellers living within tourism destinations”, Maqbool added.
