3-month Science Writing Workshop concludes at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, March 4: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Kashmir Thursday concluded a three-month Science Writing Workshop, aimed at developing writing and analytical skills among students and scientists of the university.

The workshop was organised by the university’s Faculty of Forestry under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of SKUAST-K.

The workshop was conducted by the freelance media consultant for science writing KP Madhu of Current Science. Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, in his message stressed having more such skill-oriented programme in future.

Director, Planning & Monitoring, and PI, NAHEP, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest at the occasion, said that he was delighted to see the outcome of the workshop. He described the program as the beginning of a remarkable journey for aspiring science writers. He desired to have enhanced writing skills developed among students as well as teachers at all faculties of SKUAST-K.

Dean, Faculty of Forestry, Prof TH Masoodi said the way students have groomed their writing skills while attending this course is remarkable. He congratulated the expert KP Madhu and the organising committee for wonderfully conducting this workshop. KP Madhu in his comments described this journey as amazing and memorable. Earlier, Prof Anup Raj (Organizing Secretary) and Dr Amir Farooq (Organizing member) presented the outcomes of the workshop. On the occasion, the students’ writing assignments named Kashur Meeras and SciGest were also released by the dignitaries. Dr Ashfaq A Mir and Sofi Jeelani were among the members who contributed to designing the magazines.

The valedictory session and certificate distribution ceremony was conducted by Dr Akhlaq Amin Wani (Organizing member). About 39 candidates had applied for the program, out of which 20 were selected to pursue the program. Among others who participated in the concluding ceremony include Prof FA Zaki (HRM, Consultant, NAHEP SKUAST-K) Prof KN Qaisar, Prof SA Gangoo, Prof PA Khan, Prof MA Islam, Dr JA Mugloo, Dr PA Sofi, Dr GM Bhat, Dr SNZ Geelani, Dr Khursheed besides other faculty members.
