USGS says earthquake was 5.9 strong; no damage reported in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 13: No damage of life or property has been reported from anywhere from the late night earthquake experienced in J&K, North India, Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PAK) and parts of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey recorded the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.9, with a depth of 91.6 kms and its epicentre at 35 kms west of Murghob in Tajikistan.

As per the India Metrological Department (IMD), the earthquake measured 6.3 on the Richter Scale. It occurred at 10.31 pm (IST) and its coordinates were 38.00 N and 73.58 E. The depth of this earthquake was 74 km.

Strong tremors were felt across north India in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, the Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand.

The northern areas of Pakistan, including the federal capital and several cities in Punjab, Lahore, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, were jolted by the earthquake, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
