Seminar on mushroom cultivation and doubling farmers’ income held

Srinagar, 16 Feb: A seminar on “Mushroom cultivation: A way forward to double the farmers’ income” was organized by Joint Directorate of Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department Kashmir at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi, Srinagar.

Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, inaugurated the event. He said “the main objective of conducting such training camps was to give technical knowhow on commercial cultivation of mushrooms on scientific lines with main thrust on sustainability so that the youth do not rely on government jobs only but engage themselves in self employment generation activities also. He said mushroom cultivation has commercial dimensions which can uplift the socio economic status of growers.”

The Director stressed upon the Mushroom Development Officers to identify and register mushroom growers so that the incentives under different CSS Schemes are provided to these registered growers.

Joint Director Apiculture and Mushroom Farooq Ahmad Shah gave power point presentation deliberating on the issued face by mushroom growers. He emphasized on adopting strategy in consonance with present scenario as devised by planners towards achievement of goals for doubling farmers’ income. He said Directorate of AP&FWD offers all avenues to farmers to engage in this trade.

Besides Joint Director Agriculture Extension Mohammad Muzafffer Hurra, Mushroom Specialist Zaffar Ahmad Hakeem, Mushroom Research Officer Farzana Tabasum other senior officers of the Department and a large number of mushroom growers were present during the event.
