Srinagar, Feb 23: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCC) Tuesday urged the authorities to devise a comprehensive policy for the transport industry of Jammu and Kashmir so that the problems transporters confront are addressed.
Addressing a press conference at KCCI head office, Sheikh Ashiq who heads the conglomerate as its president, according to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), asked the government to adopt a proactive approach and address all the issues transport industries face at the moment.
The reaction comes day before the transporters are all set to begin an indefinite strike against the government’s obstinate approach to address their issues including that of review in passenger fare and token and passenger tax waiver during the lock down period.
KCCI president said every single sector including education, healthcare, tourism will be badly affected incase the transport industry go on with its indefinite strike call. He appealed to the authorities to initiate a dialogue with transporters to avoid inconvenience people are going to face.
“How long transporters suffer, why don’t the government device a onetime policy for them so that issues problems they face are dressed once for all. Not transporters, their families too suffer in the wake the government’s obstinate approach to dress their genuine issues,” Sheikh Ashiq added.
He said tourists in abundance from within and abroad visited Jammu and Kashmir this year; however the industry may take a serious hit in case the government does not initiate talks with transport union representatives.
Sheikh Ashiq further said the transporters have an important role to play as far as economy is concerned, however the same may suffer a jolt if the issues people associated with transport industry are not resolved.
“KCCI conveyed authorities to look into the genuine demands of the transporters and resolve them accordingly. We don’t want people to suffer in the wake of indefinite strike called by the transport union,” he added. —(KNO)
