Shri Arvind Kejriwal Ji

Chief Minister

New Delhi,

India

Sub: Illegal Sale of unlawfully imported apple fruit in New Fruit Market Azadpur.

Respected Sir,

With great reverence the Cold Chain Holders are very glad to observe your keen interest towards development of Horticulture sector in particular and overall development of Jammu & Kashmir UT in general.

As your goodself is well aware that all the fruit which is stored in our stores belongs to small & marginal farmers , who expect that after the harvesting season is over, the produce stored’ll fetch reasonable prices in the market.

In this regard we would like to bring it to your kind notice that some fruit traders have started to import Iran Apples through Wagah Border illegally under the trade name of Afghan Apple evading duties at the border and selling it as domestic produce in APMC Delhi.

It has also come to our notice that Iran has started ‘dumping’ apples under the garb of Afghan apples into India. This situation shall put the whole of our industry both in J&K and Himachal Pradesh in a very precarious situation resulting in huge losses to the marginal & small growers.

This fruit is being marketed illegally in New Fruit Market of Azadpur Mandi which is only meant for domestic produce. It has come to our notice that almost 30-50 Trucks enter Azadpur Mandi everyday and the gate pass is issued for New Sabzi Mandi but the Fruit is sold as domestic produce in New Fruit Market. This is resulting in huge losses for our small and marginal domestic farmers. This fruit is sold under disguise of Kashmir & Himachal apple in open auctions.

This illegal ‘dumping’ and “Sale” of fresh fruits in our country is not only catastrophic to the farmers but also result in huge losses to the state Exchequer. It may not be out of place to mention that this type of precarious situation has taken place in the past also but the timely action by authorities saved the situation.

As such we are hopeful that you will take this communication as an SOS message from the farmers and your office will stop this illegal sale of these apples in New Fruit Market Immediately which is only meant for domestic farmers of the company.
