Srinagar Feb 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi got highly emotional in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday during his farewell address for veteran Congress leader from J&K Ghulam Nabi Azad.

In a teary farewell to the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Ghulam Nabi Azad as a friend, a decent man who cared about everyone as family members.

“The person who will replace Ghulam Nabi ji (as Leader of Opposition) will have difficulty matching his work because he was not only concerned about his party but also about the country and the House”, Mr Modi said while struggling to fight his tears back.

“Posts come, high office comes, power comes and how to handle these, one must learn from Ghulam Nabi Azad Ji. I would consider him a true friend”, Mr Modi said.

While referring to the incident of a terror attack on Gujarat pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir in the past, PM Modi said Ghulam Nabi Azad had called him to inform him about the incident. PM Modi said Ghulam Nabi Azad called him twice and to help carrying the bodies of those died in that incident.

Hailing Mr Azad as a true patriot who maintained the dignity of his job and the house, PM Modi said, “I would not let you retire, will continue taking your advice. My doors are always open for you”.
