Handicrafts Dept adopts collaboration strategy to promote J&K handicrafts

New Delhi, 10 Feb: To strengthen and build up buisness ecosystem for the artisans of Jammu & Kashmir UT, a delegation of J&K Government called on Development Commissioner handicrafts, Shantmanu, IAS and Development Commissioner Handlooms Sanjay Rastogi in Ministry of Textiles GOI.

Mahmood Shah, (Director Handicrafts and Handlooms Kashmir, KAS), & Mr Vikas Gupta, (Director Handicrafts and Handlooms Jammu, KAS) exchanged thoughts on collaborating and garnering support from them. The delegation also submitted a proposal to conduct a special event for promoting artisans and their handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir in Dilli Haat.

During the meeting with Development Commissioner Handlooms, development of handlooms clusters in Jammu and Kashmir alongwith capacity building/ trainings for artisans were discussed in detail.They also discussed marketing initiatives that can be taken up for promotion of handlooms from Union territory.
The delegation has successfully interacted with various agencies and department/offices at the Centre and shall be calibrating for promotion handlooms and handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir thereby supporting artisans with livelihood and creating outreach to wider set of audience and markets across India.

The delegation also interacted with the senior officers of Export Promotion Council of India and Invest India. R K Verma ED EPCH apprised the delegation about the working of EPCH and assured to support in the marketing, training of artisans along with designing for JK products. He also informed about the role of EPCH in promoting the Products in International fairs. One District one Product initiative of Ministry of Commerce GOI was discussed with the Vice President Invest India Dushyant Thakor. He shared advisory on grounding the investments. Mr Thakor also extended support in doing capacity building workshops for augmenting department in UT with newer skill sets and acquiring talents.
