Finance Minister announces revival of gas pipeline project for J&K

Srinagar, Feb 1: The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Monday announced the revival of a pending gas pipeline project in Jammu & Kashmir.

The union finance minister made the announcement during her budget speech in the parliament today.

Pertinently, in 2011, J&K government had announced that the Gujarat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL), a company owned by the Gujarat government, will connect Mehsana in the western state to Bhatinda in Punjab and then to Jammu, Kathua and Srinagar. The entire project was expected to cost an estimated Rs 6,500 crore. The pipeline was then estimated to begin operations by the middle of 2014.

Meanwhile, Lt. Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha thanked the PM Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah for announcing a gas pipeline project.
