Snowfall begins across Kashmir; air traffic likely to disrupt

Srinagar: Light to moderate snowfall has begun across most of Kashmir valley and parts of Chenab, Pirpanjal valleys and Kargil.

As already forecast, this brief snow spell is likey to continue till tonight, with varying degrees. Given the prevalence of sub-zero temperatures in the night acroas the valley and the mountains, snow accumulation is likely to be rapid and create slippery conditions.

According to Aamir Ali, Director Disaster Management Department, as of 7:45 M, this much snow has been recorded in various areas:

Srinagar: 2cm
Kupwara: 2 inches +
Baramulla: 2 inches +
Gulmarg: 3 inches
Ganderbal: 2cm
Shopian: 1cm
Kulgam: 1cm

Given the probability of very low visibility throughout the day today in Srinagar, air traffic is likely to remain disrupted today.
