Shah Anwar Colony residents appeal SMC Mayor to address area’s snow chaos

ZT NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar: Home to hundreds of households, Shah Anwar Colony, Hyderpora Bypass, is one of the those city habitations where inhabitants remain marooned due to snow accumulation on its roads, connecting it to the By-Pass Road.

Residents of the colony, particularly doctors attending to medical emergencies in hospitals, are unable to move out of their homes as snow on the colony roads is yet to be cleared.

The residents have appealed the SMC Mayor to direct the field staff of the corporation to clear the roads of the snow in the colony at the earliest.

Medical emergencies and households with special needs for the elderly are mostly vulnerable in these circumstances, residents said.

Meanwhile, a group of residents have also appealed the SMC to look into the cases of building violations through which some buildings raised in the area have violated building rules and have projected their rooftops on the main roads, leading to mountains of snow accumulating on the colony roads.

“While the natural snow accumulated on the roads can be removed, but the tons of snow dropping from houses and buildings directly on the roads are a major hazard for the safety of the people. Once frozen, the rooftop snow can be a severe hazard”, said one resident, asking SMC to look into building rule violations.
