Mushroom and apiculture to be taken on priority in Kashmir: Agri Dept

Srinagar, Jan 29: Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today held a review meeting with respect to physical and financial achievements under Capex and different Centrally Sponsored Schemes of District Srinagar here at Agriculture Complex Lalmandi, Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Mohammad Muzaffer Hurra, Joint Director Apiculture and Mushrooms Farooq Ahmad Shah, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs/Marketing/PHM Amir ud din Andrabi. Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar, Mohammad Younis Chowdhary and other officers /officials of the district.

Director reviewed the targets approved under various centrally sponsored schemes and also emphasized to accomplish the targets in time bound manner.

Deliberating on Mushroom and Apiculture Sectors the Director reiterated that the sector is being taken as priority sector by the Department, which can generate additional income to the Apiculture and Mushroom Growers. He said that the Department is committed to give all sorts of technical assistance to the interested entrepreneurs. It was emphasized on the officers to prepare a training calendar so that necessary trainings to the interested farmers are imparted.

On the occasion the Joint Director Agriculture informed the participants that all the Demonstration cum Training Centres (DCTCs) will be upgraded during the current year as these serve as model training centres for the benefit of farmers associated with these sectors. Comprehensive plans in this regard have been formulated so that more and more young people are roped-in to adopt these highly remunerative enterprises.

Mr Chowdhary also directed the employees to put in all efforts and professional endeavour for making the agriculture sector glamorous, remunerative and profitable. He stressed for adoption of accountable and transparent mechanism during the course of implementation of various State and Central sponsored schemes.

He stressed upon the officers to promote the cultivation of exotic and high value vegetables on priority for the economic prosperity of the farming community.

Earlier Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar gave a power point presentation regarding the overall scenario of district Srinagar.
