Srinagar, Jan 24: A rights activist from Kupwara has filed a complaint before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) demanding action against the Govt officials which lead to death of two young men from Kralpora area of Kupwara district on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

Rasikh Rasool who is also district coordinator of Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement Kupwara has “demanded action against the negligent public authorities especially the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and construction company for the recurrent and avoidable deaths on the highway.”

Meanwhile Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar has demanded that construction company which is undertaking road widening on NH 44 be blacklisted as this firm has missed several deadlines to complete the work.

Mr Rasikh in his written complaint told NHRC that two youths namely Shabir Ahmad Mir (24) and Gulzar Ahmad Mir (27) were on the way to Jammu from Kupwara. The duo had left for Jammu a few days back but got stuck in the traffic jam due to bad weather amid snowfall on the highway near Banihal area.

“Both the young men were found dead inside their car bearing registration number JKO9B-7358 on Sunday afternoon. This incident is clearly indicating carelessness from the part of the Government as human lives are seemingly put at risk because no proper assistance was provided to them. Negligence of concerned officials (public authorities ) may kindly be identified for proper action and proper relief me kindly be provided to next of kin (NoK) of victims as early as possible.”
