Death of two stranded passengers on highway are ‘murders’: AIP

Srinagar, Jan 24: Incarcerated Er Rashid-led Jammu Kashmir Awami Itehad Party today in a statement denounced the approach of the administration towards the hapless stranded passengers and the lives of people who are dying from sub-zero temperatures on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

“It is absolutely regretful that present administration is not doing enough for stranded passengers on the highway. Yesterday two people stranded in Banihal region lost their lives since they had to spend night in their vehicle owing to the fact that nearly all hotels were full as per local sources”, the party said.

The deceased youth have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir (son of Abdul Rashid Mir) and Majid Gulzar Mir (son of Gulzar Ahmad Mir) of Kralpora in Kupwara. They were in their TATA Mobile (JK09B-7358) and died during the night.

There are around 500 odd vehicles stranded in Banihal and adjoining localities. Most of the people are stuck in own vehicles as the local hotels are already full, the party said, adding that the least the Administration could have done was to ensure that in life threatening sub zero temperatures required arrangements were made for stranded passengers by the Government.
