How much snow is likely in Kashmir this weekend? Here is ZT Outlook

Srinagar: November is poised for an early snowfall and rains in Kashmir yet again.

The first snow spell is likely to start from Friday, November 13, followed by two more spells in 3rd and 4th weeks of November. Guided by the analysis of diverse weather data by Ziraat Times, here is the date and area-wise ZT Weather Outlook for this week for Jammu & Kashmir:

Friday, Nov 13: Mostly dry across Kashmir and Jammu regions, with some snowfall in north Kashmir mountains.

Saturday, Nov 14: Snowfall likely to occur in Upper Kupwara, Upper Rafiabad, Gurez, Razdan Pass and surrounding areas. Moderate to heavy snowfall will occur in Sonamarg, Zoji La Pass, Gund Valley’s upper areas, Kargil, Drass, Zanaskar, Kolohai areas, Upper Pahalgam areas, Margam Pass, Upper Kishtwar, Upper Bhaderwah and Doda areas.

On Saturday, South Kashmir areas of upper Kulgam, upper Shopian, Pir ki Gali, Yusmarg, Gulmarg areas, upper karma Budgam areas would receive snowfall too.

Srinagar and surrounding plain areas are likely to experience rainfall on Saturday. Snowfall activity is likely in Zabarwan hills and upper Dachigam areas.

Sunday, Nov 15: On Sunday snowfall would continue across Pirpanjal areas including Banihal Pass and surrounding areas, Upper Kulgam and upper Anantnag areas, Per ki Gali, Upper Kupwara, Upper Rafiabad, Gurez, Razdan Pass and surrounding areas, Sonamarg, Gund Valley, Kargil, Zoji La Pass, Drass, Zanaskar, Kolohai areas, Upper Pahalgam, Margam Pass, Upper Kishtwar, Upper Bhaderwah and Doda areas.

Srinagar and surrounding plain areas of the valley are likely to experience rains and potentially light snowfall on Sunday. Snowfall is likely also in Zabarwan hills and upper Dachigam areas.

Monday, Nov 16: Snowfall and rainfall activity is likely to subside Monday onwards. Some snowfall would continue in Sonamarg, Kargil, Zanaskar valley and surrounding areas.

It is likely to remain cloudy in Kashmir valley, Chenab and Pirpanjal valleys, and more spells of snowfall are likely to be experienced in the 3rd and 4th week of November.

DURING THIS SPELL THIS IS HOW MUCH SNOW IS EXPECTED AREA-WISE IN J&K:

  • North Kashmir areas of upper Kupwara, upper Rafiabad, Sadhna Pass, Razdan Pass, Gurez, upper Bandipora, Gund-Kangan valley areas, Sonamarg and surrounding areas are likely to receive 1 to 2 feet of snowfall. 
  • Pirpanjal mountain range and karewas areas along the range from Verinag to Pir ki Gali to Yusmarg and to Tosa Maidan, Gulmarg and Upper Kandi Baramulla areas would receive 6 inches to 2 feet of snowfall.
  • The south-eastern parts of Kashmir valley, from Verinag, Pahalgam, upper Tral, Kolohai areas, Shikargah, Dachigam Park areas would receive between 6 inches to 2 feet of snowfall.
  • Upper Bhaderwah, Upper Kishtwar, upper Doda, Sinthan Top, Margan Top and Margan valley would receive snowfall between 1 feet to 2 feet.
