J&K has new Revenue Board; to be Chief Controlling Authority for land laws

Srinagar: The union government has formalized a new Board of Revenue for Jammu & Kashmir, which shall be the Chief Controlling Authority for land law matters stipulated under the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of State Laws) Fifth Order, 2020.

As per the Gazette of India notification No. 3377 dated October 26, 2020, accessed by Ziraat Times, a new sub-section 5 A has been introduced in the Act, which says:

(1) There shall be a Board of Revenue for the Union territory of Jammuand Kashmir, consisting of following members, namely:-

(a) Financial Commissioner Revenue shall be the ex-officioChairman; and

(b) two other members of the rank of Secretary to the Government to beappointed by the Government of the Union territory of Jammu andKashmir;

(2) Subject to the superintendence, direction and control of the Government, the Board shall be the Chief Controlling Authority regarding all the matters provided in this Act.

Powers and functions of the Board:

According to the new law, the Board shall–

(a) exercise, perform and discharge powers, functions and dutiesconferred upon it by or under Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of State Laws) Fifth Order, 2020, or any other law for the time being in force;

(b) decide all the matters relating to the Acts repealed under section140, within one year from the Constitution of the Board; and

(c) perform all the functions entrusted to it by the Government fromtime to time.

(2) The terms, references and procedure to be followed by the Board shall be such as may be notified by the Government
