KCCI EC members, present office bearers welcome High Court order on elections

Srinagar: Several key business stakeholders, including the existing Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) executive committee members, have welcomed the J&K High Court verdict on the conduct of elections to the business chamber today.

Seven members of the Executive Committee of KCCI, namely Javed Tenga, Umar Nazir Tibetbaqal, Altaf Ahmad Tramboo, Ashiq Ahmad Shangloo, Fayaz Ahmad Punjabi, Syed Masood Shah, Faiz Ahmad Bakshi, Muzaffar Majid have in a joint statement issued here today have expressed “deep satisfaction over the order announced today by Justice A.M. Magray while hearing an appeal filed against earlier order of 4th Addl. District Judge Srinagar.”

“The order has paved way for holding free and fair elections of this prestigious trade body which had been engulfed by multiple controversies.The applicants had prayed to the Hon’ble Court to appoint receiver under whose supervision elections should be held which the Hon’ble Court has kindly granted by appointing DC Srinagar along with two other Hon’ble Judges” the members said.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomed the directions of the High Court for facilitation of elections in the august body.

“The stand of the existing Executive Committee has been vindicated, which always wanted to hold elections and had given it in writing before the trial Court as well as before the Hon’ble High Court, but had expressed it’s difficulty in holding it because of Covid 19 and 144 Cr PC imposition being in place”, the spokesperson said.

“We had prayed for the same. The Hon’ble High Court in its order has restored functioning of KCC&I by the Executive Committee elected in the year 2018, subject to conditions till the expiry of their term, which had previously been extended by them till 27th of September, 2020″, the spokesperson added.
