KVK-Leh adds another feather to its cap

Leh: Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, once again bagged another prestigious award for one of its innovative farmers, a statement received by Ziraat Times said.

This time Ms. Yangchan Dolma, progressive farm woman adopted by KVK-Leh, and hailing from village Saboo of District Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh has been conferred with the ‘Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puruskar 2019’. This award was bestowed to her on the occasion of 92nd foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi in an online mode on July 16. The function of ICAR foundation day was graced by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India, Narendra Tomar.

The award carries a certificate as well as a cash prize of rupees 50,000. Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension) informed that this is back to back second award for Ms Dolma. Earlier, in this year she also bagged the L.M. Patel memorial award by ASPEE foundation, Mumbai. The foundation is an agricultural research and development foundation recognized as a research institute by Council for Industrial and Scientific Research. The foundation is actively engaged in Agricultural Research, Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Education for the betterment of farming community. Every year the foundation gives awards to different farmers in different categories. Mrs. Yangchan Dolma was selected for the said award in the ‘Horticulture Category- Vegetable Nursery Run by Farmer and/or His Family’. The award carries an appreciation certificate as well as a cash prize of rupees 25,000.

Dr. D. Namgyal further informed that the Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh for its contribution to the farming community in this cold arid region of Ladakh was also awarded the best KVK award in the zonal conference of KVKs organized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on July 06. The zonal conference of KVKs for zone 1 comprises of states and union territories of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, KVK-Leh got the best KVK award from amongst the KVKs of Ladakh region.
