Amid the lingering Covid crisis, KWT distributes food hampers at Summerbug

Srinagar: Continuing its mission of relief operations post COVID-19, Kashmir Welfare Trust on Friday organised another food-hamper distribution programme at Summerbug Srinagar.

As many as 200 families of the colony belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society who mostly are wage workers or with inflexible jobs were addressed. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Ghulam Geelani Zargar, Deputy Commissioner State Taxes ( also Divisional Nodal Officer for NGO coordination with Divisional Commissioner). Syed Eyad Qadri Sahib, KAS probationer from the divisional NGO was also present at the occasion, a statement of KWT said.

On behalf of district administration these two officers closely monitored and supervised the entire distribution process and made sure that the frontline volunteers follow all the precautionary measures & the strict directions from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir of proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, physical distancing and are fully equipped with PPE’s etc.

It is in place to mention that each food-kit distributed contains essential ration supplies like cooking oil, rice, tea, salt, sugar, spices, sanitary napkins, bathing soap, detergent soaps/powder etc & honey which is expected to last nearly a month for an average family of five persons, the Trust statement added.

Chairman Kashmir Welfare Trust Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo who was also present during the distribution thanked the two officers for their participation and supervision and he also specially thanked advocate Khalid Nazir Banday, Riyaz Ahmad Wangnoo, Lateef Ahmad Wangnoo and Muzaffar Ahmad Wangnoo for volunteering. He also greatly acknowledged the zeal and dedication demonstrated by the volunteers and staff of Kashmir Welfare Trust headed by relief manager Farooq Ahmad Lone. Mr. Wangnoo, who also is Chairman Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA), speaking on the occasion said that the distribution is part of a short term assistance and he stressed that a long term assistance is need of the hour especially for those persons belonging to the tourism sector.
