Industries Department to foray into Kupwara with more initiatives

SRINAGAR: In order to further explore the possibility of development of industry in Kupwara district, Director, Industries & Commerce, Mahmood Ahmad Shah l, today carried out extensive tour of upcoming industrial estate in the district.


The Director was accompanied by General Manager, DIC, Kupwara and other officers.
During the inspection, the Director was informed that an industrial estate at Radbugh has been established at a cost of Rs. 6.68 crore over 85 kanals of land. Besides 143 kanals of land have been identified at Gorihakar, Handwara, 46 kanals of land at Bumhama, Kupwara, 107 kanals of land at Darapora, Lolab and found fit for development of industries.


It may be mentioned here that District Kupwara has a huge potential of horticulture, is leading in producing walnuts and apple and is suitable for setting up walnut processing units and cold storage facility. The development of these estates will pay the way for establishment of agri and horticulture-based units.


The district, additionally, has huge reserves of marble and the revival of extraction units in the district, which have gradually gone defunct with the passage of time, will greatly benefit the youth of the district with huge employment opportunities.
