India Covid cases rise to 37,257; global tally past 3.4 million

Srinagar: The total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 37,257, with 1,223 people dead, latest official statistics show.

While all-India lockdown has been extended for two weeks, according to MHA guidelines, there will be  considerable relaxations in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones. The biggest and most economically-important cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Ahmedabad, all marked red zones, will stay under strict lockdown.

Srinagar is also unlikely to be given relaxation given the constant rise of cases in the valley and considering the city acting a hub of business and commercial activities for the region.

Globally, 3,400,278 people have been infected by coronavirus so far, and the total number of deaths from the disease stands at 239,570. Nations hit with most coronavirus cases at present are the US (1,131,030 ) Spain (242,988), Italy (207,428), UK (177,454), France (167,346) and Germany (164,077 ).

Covid-19 deaths in the United States of America (USA) climbed by 1,883 in the past 24 hours, as per Johns Hopkins University tally.
