Omar Abdullah released; NC seeks release of all political detainees

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has been released from detention on Tuesday.

J&K administration spokesperson, Rohit Kansal announced that the “government had issued orders revoking the detention of Shri Omar Abdullah”. No further details were shared.

Reacting to the development, National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi told Ziraat Times that it is a “late but nevertheless a welcome move. We hope GOI releases all political detainess now.”

“Some good news in these unprecedented times”, Tanvir Sadiq, Omar’s close aide wrote on social media.

Omar Abdullah has spent over seven months under detention since August 4, 2019. He had been detained at the former Hari Niwas palace at Gupkar Road, Srinagar.

Reliable sources told Ziraat Times that J&K administration has taken the latest step in consideration of the unfolding corona virus crisis.
