Horti Dept Kashmir earmarks 10,000 hectares for new UHD apple orchards

SRINAGAR: Horticulture Department, Kashmir, has earmarked 10,000 hectares for the establishment of ultra-high-density orchards with the help of hi-tech farming system, besides propagating desired plant material locally with the multiplication of clonal root stock. 

For propagation of 3.50 crore fruit plants about 4.00 crore root stocks will be propagated in the public and private sector nurseries.

 This was divulged at a meeting Director Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today convened to review the functioning of the horticulture sector in the Valley.

The meeting also discussed matter regarding Nursery Development Plan for production of quality plant material.

The director impressed upon Chief Horticulture officers to submit a plan in this regard immediately, so that funds are arranged well in time.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Horticulture officers and other concerned.
